Day 3 of the “14 Days of Thanks” – a countdown to Thanksgiving.
“And now we thank You, our God, and praise your glorious name.” 1 Chronicles 29:10-13
We thank God for a lot of things…
and that’s ok.
We thank Him for our health, our wealth, our families, our church our Job, etc…
and those things (including the etc…) are good things to thank Him for
YES, we should give Him thanks for those things…
but have you ever gave thanks to God for Just being God?
David did
Therefore David blessed the Lord in the presence of all the assembly. And David said: “Blessed are you, O Lord, the God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might, and in your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all. And now we thank you, our God, and praise your glorious name. (1 Chronicles 29:10-13)
He thanked Him for being his nation’s Father
He thanked Him for being a Father that would never “run away” or rejected His family
He thanked Him for His greatness
He thanked God for His Power
He thanked Him for His glory
He thanked Him for Victory
He thanked God for God’s majesty
He was thankful that everything in the world was God’s and God’s alone.
He was thankful for God’s kingdom and that God holds a position that is above all of creation.
He was thankful that all riches and all honor originated from God.
He was thankful that God ruled with a powerful, mighty hand.
He was thankful that God gave strength to all.
David was thankful first and for most for God and that should be the first topic on our lips when we are giving thanks.
So let’s take time today to tell God how thankful we are for Him and Him alone, and put some of the other stuff ( yes the other good stuff we are thankful for) on the back burner for a while and just focus on God and being thankful for who He is.
