God has a Broom

God never gives us more than we can handle, but sometimes we give ourselves a mess we can’t handle…

Yep…. that’s right….

all the hard times you go through in life are not all sent from God, we tend to create them for ourselves…

more often than we realize.

You do not need to go any further than Proverbs to see that choices matter.  There are wise choices and foolish choices.  Wise choices take us on a path of righteousness and foolish ones take us to hard times…

times we could have avoided but choose not too.

Just ask King Saul and any other person in the Bible who chose to do things their way and not God’s.  It never turned out good for them.  They always reaped the consequences of their bad decisions.

It’s the same way with us…

sometimes the tough situations we find ourselves in are really just the results of bad choices we have made.

It’s almost like we think…

“Hey I’m exempt from the consequences of this choice.  I know everyone is telling me not to do this…

but…

it feels like the right thing to do so I will go ahead and do it”.

Then we find ourselves in a bad situation of our own choosing, struggling to find something to cling to. So we go to the Bible and misquote this biblical promise   “God will never give us more than we can handle”…

as if He made the stupid choice for us…

all the while ignoring the  other passages of scripture that teach us decisions matter, the way you live your life matters and you are responsible for your actions.

Remember…

When we ignore our responsibility in causing the hard time to occur it prevents us from getting to the root of the issue…

US

It is hard to admit (even for me) I alone made this mess because of poor choices.

We need to resist quoting a verse that takes the blame off ourselves and focus on what needs to be done…

Confession to the Lord.

For confession is the only path to freedom.

So, swallow your pride, get on your knees and say…

“Lord – I did this, I caused this to happen, please forgive me and help me clean it up.”

and Here’s the cool thing…

He loves us enough  to forgive us…

and grab His broom.
