(Proverbs 22)
I desire to have a good name, who doesn’t?
But sometimes people are placed in a position where if they choose incorrectly they will inherit a bad name and sometimes never recover from that fall.
“Lord help me live in such away I represent you and have a good name for your glory!”
But more than that I desire for my children to have a good name. That takes training and training has a price, for there are times that it requires discipline, and there are times it requires a spanking.
Training up a child includes passing on the principles of life from God’s word. Passing on the fact that there is a right and a wrong way to live. That there are consequences for bad choices. Sometimes training is correcting the behavior with a little pain and struggle, instead of waiting till life teaches them a lesson that will hurt worse and will be harder to fix. A lesson that will defined their path rather than guide it.
Parenting is making the easy choices and carrying out the tough ones. What ever you teach them and whatever you guide them to do (whether intentional or unintentional) they will not depart from that later in life.
So for now, while they are in your home do all that you can do to steer them in a way that will give them…
a good name.
For its worth more than all the treasures in the world.
