When you are faced with making a decision that will not only effect your family but a large group of people it is best to listen to a multitude of counselors before you make the decision.
Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. Proverbs 15:22
So who are the people you need to listen too?
- Those that are closest to you. Talk to them in depth about the plan you have or the decision you are about to make and see what they say.
- Announce it to the group that will be impacted by your decision. Give them time to respond to you and give their input
- Listen to those who are positive concerning it, but be careful to not get caught up in the positive nature of the conversation and use the positive nature of it as “confirmation” that you are headed in the right direction.
- Listen to those who are not positive about it and have concerns but be careful not to get so caught up in the negative vibe that you take it as confirmation that you are headed in the wrong direction. That may not be true.
Allow the negative comments to cause movement for you to do more research on the decision you are about to make and let it make you seek out other people to listen too. Do not count these people as enemies, remember God is using them to help you make the decision He wants you to make.
Remember, it is the mixture of negative and positive view points that brings you to a point of true confidence when you make a decision. Do not allow yourself to take sides on the issue. Making the right decision is not based on which side you are on, its based on what God wants and what the right thing to do is for the situation.
5. Listen to everyone, especially those that take the time to seek you out to talk to you. There is value in them being moved to speak with you about the decision.
Remember, listening doesn’t mean you have to agree or do what each person tells you to. You just need to listen and take away only the information that helps you gain the info you need to make the right decision.
