Giving an Account

As I was finishing up our last lesson in Hebrews for tonight the word of God reminded me that I will have to give an account for the people He has placed in my care.

“Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you.” Hebrews 13:17

My heart is stuck on the giving an account part.

That’s a big deal.

and it brought questions to my mind such as…

How am I doing? Am I saying the right things (according to the Bible and God)? Am I pushing the church to follow Christ, to love like Christ, to be like Christ? Are disciples being created? Are people challenged to live differently? Are they changing? Do I need to do more? If so how? Is my schedule balanced between ministry and home? Are the people I serve more in love with Jesus today than they were 3 years ago?

So my prayer today is for God to help me be the pastor I need to be… if His answer comes in the form of “stay faithful and continue to do what you are doing” Great. But if it comes in the form of… you need to focus on this more and be more disciplined in this area, then praise God the change will be made!

For one day I have to give an account to Him for all of this…

and that’s a big deal.
