Have you ever had a moment where the lights in a room were dim…
and you mistook something for something else?
I think we all have.
Have you ever walked across a dark room thinking you could make it—
only to trip over something you didn’t even know was there?
I have.
In fact, I once cut my leg on a portable stage at church.
I was walking briskly through the worship center with the lights off…
and I didn’t see it.
It took weeks for that laceration to heal.
And if I had just turned on the lights—
if I could have seen clearly—
it never would have happened.
Have you ever opened your mouth and said something stupid?
I have.
Recently.
Just the other day, I was convinced that April 9th was today…
(it was actually Tuesday, April 7th).
That didn’t matter much to me—
but it mattered to my son.
I sent him to get a haircut at 6:30 in the morning…
only for him to find out his appointment wasn’t today.
It was Thursday.
When I realized what I’d done, I felt bad for him.
And honestly… I felt a little stupid.
Because I should have looked more closely.
The text clearly said the 9th.
It even said Thursday.
I just didn’t see it.
Not very smart.
A long way from being wise.
Daniel says:
“Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens…”
— Book of Daniel 12:3
Wisdom, in Daniel’s world, isn’t about knowing more.
It’s about seeing clearly.
Seeing what’s true.
Understanding correctly.
Making the right decisions.
And helping others move in the right direction…
while you go there yourself.
It’s living in a way that reflects light.
Because our names are written somewhere—
what Daniel calls a book of deliverance.
And we want others written there too.
A day is coming…
when everyone rises.
And what we did with our lives—
what we did with Jesus—
will matter more than we think.
Two outcomes.
Two directions.
So we share the gospel.
With our lives.
With our words.
Not out of pressure.
Not out of guilt.
But because it matters.
And when we do…
Daniel says:
“Those who lead many to righteousness [will shine] like the stars forever and ever.”
Wait.
So shining isn’t just about living right…
…it’s also about helping others live right.
The ones who nudged.
Who stayed in the conversation.
Who refused to give up on someone.
Who loved anyway.
Who prayed.
Who asked God for wisdom to guide the process.
It’s like helping someone else catch the light you’ve been given…
…and then watching them glow.
If your name is written in that book—
then you’re already living in light of something coming.
A brighter shining still ahead.
Daniel pulls the curtain back even further.
He sees a kingdom—
given to “the saints of the Most High.” (7:27)
He sees one “like a son of man” receiving glory that never fades. (7:13–14)
And then the wild part—
That glory doesn’t stay with Him alone.
It spreads.
To us.
The light gets turned up.
Brighter than it’s ever been.
Not because of us—
but because we reflect Him.
Paul says it like this in Second Epistle to the Corinthians:
We are being changed into His likeness—
from one degree of glory to another. (3:18)
John says:
We don’t even know fully what we will be…
…but we know this—
We will be like Him. (1 John 3:1–3)
So since Jesus shines…
we will shine like Him.
Now—
and even more in eternity.
And according to Daniel…
it’s forever.
No fading.
No dimming.
No loss.
No off switch.
Just constant light.
Eternal brightness.
Like stars.
So maybe the question isn’t:
Are you shining right now?
Maybe the better question is:
Are you becoming the kind of person
who will shine then?
And if you are…
you won’t shine alone.
Stars making stars.
Multiplying—
across the world…
and into eternity.
