God Gives

Babylon was loud.

Powerful.
Conquering.
Full of expansion and development.

Ideas were moving fast.
Systems were growing.
The future looked impressive.

And still—

A king was restless.
A dream lingered in the air.
The future felt uncertain.

And into that moment—

“God gave Daniel understanding in all visions and dreams.”
(Daniel 1:17; 2:19; 2:27–28)

God gave Daniel what was needed when it was needed.

Understanding.

Understanding that brought a king clarity.
Understanding that settled his soul.
Understanding that calmed him down.

This wasn’t insight for survival.

It was a king’s first encounter with Someone more powerful than himself.

A God who was in control.
A God who cared enough to communicate.
A God who wanted the king to know who He was.

So God gave a dream.
And God positioned Daniel to stand before that king
and represent Him.

The message was unmistakable.

Earthly wisdom has limits.
Counselors are limited by their own minds.

But when God sends a person,
doors open.

Understanding expands.
Direction becomes possible.

Wisdom is given that passes all human capabilities.

Fast Forward to Another Dream

Joseph faced a moment that made no sense and he was restless.

The woman he loved was pregnant.
The explanation sounded impossible.
His reputation was at stake.
His future felt fragile.

Logic pointed in one direction.

She had to be put away.
The engagement had to end.

And into that tension—

God gave.

God gave Joseph understanding through a dream.

“do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” Mathew 1:20b

This wasn’t reassurance for ease.

It was an invitation into God’s unfolding plan of redemption.

And Jospeh accepted it.

The Gifts from God

When we talk about God giving, we often imagine something we can hold.
Something measurable.
Something immediate.

But Scripture tells a quieter story.

God gives:
understanding
wisdom
discernment
direction

Gifts that guide rather than glitter.
Gifts that illuminate the next step instead of the whole path.

And maybe—
besides Jesus—
those are the greatest gifts of all.
